By Ms Kiera Lewis
Deputy Principal - Year 9 & 10
We believe every day counts.
Regular attendance is essential for your child’s academic success, social development, and overall wellbeing.
Did you know? Missing just one day a week adds up to more than two months of lost learning each year, which can have a big impact on your student's progress.
Reasonable Excuses for Absence
We understand that sometimes students need to be away from school. Acceptable reasons include:
- Illness
- Work experience
- Competing in a school sporting event
To support your student's learning, please avoid absences for reasons such as:
- Birthdays
- Shopping trips
- Visiting family or friends
- Sleeping in
- Looking after other children
- Minor check-ups (e.g. haircuts)
Where possible, please schedule appointments before/after school or during the holidays to minimise disruption.
Attendance Processes
Reporting an Absence
If your student will be absent, please notify us:
- Before the absence,
- On the day, or
- As soon as possible after they return.
How to notify us:
- Email: studentabsences@bremershs.eq.edu.au
- Phone: (07) 3810 9366
Late Arrivals
Students arriving after Form class must sign in at their Year Level Hub.
For approved lateness (e.g. medical appointments), please provide one of the following:
- A written note
- An email to the Year Level Hub
- A phone call
Early Departures
If your student needs to leave early:
- They must collect a Leave Pass from their Year Level Hub before school or during a break.
- This ensures they are ready when you arrive and helps reduce classroom interruptions.
How to notify us of an early departure:
- Send a note with your student
- Email the Year Level Hub
- Call and follow the prompts to your student's Year Level Hub
Emergency or Unplanned Early Departures
In urgent situations, please allow up to 20 minutes for your student to be signed out.
Some classes may be held in workshops, on the oval, or in presentations, which can delay immediate contact.
Why Regular Attendance Matters
Consistent attendance ensures your student stays on track with their learning and builds positive routines.
While reasonable absences are considered, prolonged or unexplained absences may result in further action, including possible legal consequences for non-compliance with attendance requirements.
