Bremer State High School is proud to announce Stephanie Towers as the 2024 Dux of School, a recognition awarded to the student with the highest academic achievement. In addition to this honour, Stephanie has led as school captain, defence captain, dance captain, and cheer captain. Stephanie's achievements reflect her dedication to not only academics but also sports, the arts, and community service, highlighting the broad impact she has had across the Bremer State High School community.
Aiming for a Career in Medicine
Stephanie's ambitions extend well beyond high school. “Next year, I'm excited to begin my journey toward becoming a doctor or surgeon by studying medicine at university," she shared. Her immediate goal is to succeed in her Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) on 25 November, a key step in her medical school application. In addition to her studies, Stephanie plans to give back to the Bremer community by teaching dance and cheer, a way to continue sharing her passion for the arts and leadership with current students.
Lessons in Resilience and Sacrifice
Reflecting on the past year, Stephanie highlighted the importance of resilience as her biggest lesson. “This year taught me to never give up, even when faced with challenges. If you're truly committed to your dreams, failure isn't an option—you just have to keep pushing forward," she explained. Her year has taught her to embrace the sacrifices needed to reach her goals while still appreciating life's journey. “Studying is important, but so is living. Each experience, big or small, shapes who you are," she added, encouraging her peers to balance hard work with meaningful experiences.
Stephanie's success has been years in the making. “Back in Year 7, I promised myself I'd become Dux and school captain one day," she revealed. This determination has guided her through the highs and lows, culminating in her incredible achievements this year.
The Road to Dux: Consistent Effort Over Time
Earning the title of Dux isn't about short-term efforts or last-minute cramming. Stephanie described her study approach as one of consistency over the years, balancing intense study periods with lighter weeks as needed. “It's not a sprint that you can begin in Year 12," she noted. Stephanie advises other students to set clear goals early and maintain a steady focus, even if that means a few hours of study each week. “Success comes from small, consistent actions built over years of both failures and wins," she said, reminding students that progress doesn't require perfection but resilience.
As Stephanie graduates, she leaves a legacy of leadership, academic excellence, and community spirit. She reminds her peers of Winston Churchill's words: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts." Stephanie's journey continues, but her impact on Bremer State High School will be remembered for years to come.
